Kid Quotes

Kenna Quotes:

"Hi Sweet girl, how was your day?" I asked after she just got home from school.
"Good, but I'm DRIPPY SWEATY!" she says as she lifts her school uniform up over her head to cool off!

Kenna: "Mom, Dillan & another boy got sent to the principles office today."
Mom: "Why"
Kenna: "Cause they were BLURTIN and BLURTIN all over the place."
(when you speak out in class without raising your hand its called a Blurt)

Jaxon Quotes:

Jaxon: "Mom, were learning about the Human Body this year...its kind of gross."
Mom: "Why is it gross?"
Jaxon: "because were talking about intestines and you know the pee pee area"
Mom: "you mean the penis?"
Jaxon: "No not that, it starts with a K."
Mom: sightly confused "you mean the kidneys?"
Jaxon: "Yeah! Isn't that gross?"
Mom: TOTAL LAUGHTER BROKE OUT! And then we had to have an anatomy talk! Fun times!

Jaxon: "Then after learning about the Human Body, we read our bible passage for the day and it said NAKED two times! and everyone in the class was giggling"
Mom: "were you giggling?"
Jaxon: "Well yeah...she said Naked! But then Ms. Owings said "get your giggles out cause its in here a few more times" so we all started laughing harder!"

He says this in disbelief! It was a big day for my 8 year old boy and all this "uncomfortable talk". Again, I cracked up, in fact I'm still laughing about it!

The First Day of School

Up at 6:15
Breakfast at 7:00
Pictures at 7:15
In the car by 7:25
The time I got to spend with these two this summer was a time I will never get back. As I know they need to go to school to learn and to grow, I cant help but miss them so much. Sure there's a little more freedom, not as many people talking to me all day long, not as many needs to be met, but the first day of school always makes me realize how fast time goes by.
Jaxon & Kenna,
I pray that you would grow in the knowledge of the Lord, that you would act on what you know to be true, that you would grow to be more responsible. I pray that you would enjoy learning, enjoy your teachers, your classmates and your school. We know this is where the Lord wants you and we look forward to seeing how the Lord will grow you this year. You are both so unique and I pray that your strengths would be used and that you would grow in your weaknesses so that you would be balanced in life. I pray that you would take what we have taught you and that you would choose your friends wisely, that you would befriend those who don't have many friends, and that you would be a Christ like example in your class and a blessing to your teacher by putting others first. I love you both more than I could ever express.
Love,
Mommy
I love seeing my kids all decked out in their little uniforms!

Kenna with her loads of school supplies for the first day of school.

Here's my little moo sitting in her big first grader desk! This year instead of 3 girls total in her class there are 11 girls! She gets to sit by 4 of them for the first quarter! I'm so excited for her to make new friends this year.

Here's my big 3rd grader sitting in his new desk.

They made it home! Both of them had a great day and loved their new teachers. Yippee!

We celebrated the first day of school by having warm chocolate chip cookies when they got home. As they sat and ate their cookies they told me all about their new classes. Kenna said she got poked in the eye with the American flag because the girl who was holding it was so excited about being line leader that she started swing it back and forth and accidentally hit Kenna in the eye! She said she didn't cry because she was so embarrassed that everyone was looking at her! She was laughing about it so I feel I can too! Jaxon was excited to show me his Bible Brain teaser that I couldn't even do! Its scary to think that my 3rd grader is smarter than I am!

It's Football Time!!!!

Can I just tell you how thrilled I am that my boy loves to play football?! I get butterflies just thinking about it! It must be the cheerleader in me that gets so excited! And this year I have reason to be even more excited because Jay is coaching Jaxon's team! Talk about being nervous. Now I'm not just nervous for Jaxon, Im nervous for Jay too! Anyway...the boys had their Jamboree on Saturday and it was SOOOOOOO exciting. Since Jay is the coach he felt it was best to play Jaxon on defense for the first go around. You don't want to start the season off with parents being mad at you because you play your son at Quarterback (which Jaxon could easily play...if Jay wont say it, I will!). So we really weren't expecting much action for him other than pulling flags. But low and behold...the last play of the game Jaxon intercepts the ball and runs for a touch down! WHOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!! Yes, I was a screamin! Our offense scored 2 touchdowns and our defense intercepted the ball twice to score two more touchdowns. We won 4-0 (its flag, they don't keep score, just how many times you scored). Jay was thrilled. Nothing like getting the first game over with. Hopefully this year will see more action than last. Also, Mark Gould (a good friend we go to church with) is Jay's assistant coach, so we have fun watching him interact with the kids too. Lets go Sabertooths! (its kind of hard to say but our sponsor is an orthodontist)! If any of you want a schedule let me know! I LOVE FOOTBALL!

I can say that up until last year this was something I never knew I would have to do...boil a mouth guard and help my kid press it into his mouth. Thank goodness for directions.

Here's Jaxon waiting in line for pictures before the Jamboree.

Here is part of Jaxon & Jay's fan club...the other fan is behind the camera! =)

I know you cant see anything here but Jaxon's team is red and he is playing defense. I wasn't willing to give up the shade I was sitting in to get good pictures...Hud & Ty wouldn't have tolerated that well!

But I did just buy a stand for my camera so that I can get better pictures come game time...so check back later for action packed pictures!

Here is Jaxon with his defensive coach Mark. He must be doing something right...defense scored twice!! HOOT HOOT!

Women's Luau

Before we left for Hawaii our church had a Luau for women only and I hosted it at our house. Here are some pictures from our very fun time together! It was a great time of fellowship and getting to know each other better! Thanks to all the ladies who came and all the ladies who put it together.
We had pulled pork, salad, Hawaiian rolls, fruit & yummy island drinks.

There were 45 women total!

Its amazing how many women will swim when there isn't a man to be found!

We were visited by "Elvis" who serenaded us with some oldies.

This is the relay that we did. These ladies had to dress up in this very authentic hula out fit, shake the maracas and run! It was hilarious!

Part of the relay was swimming across the pool in while in the inner tube! Go Megan!

What's a Luau with out a hula! Way to go Elaine...she was awesome!

Here are Suzy & Carris in the watermelon eating contest!

8 Random Things About Me

I was tagged by Natalie to list 8 random things about myself....so here I go!
1. I once won a mud wrestling tournament...I was 17 and way stronger then(that's not saying much)...and more slippery than the rest. I was the smallest girl and beat 2 different girls to win it all. The first girl was only about 10lbs heavier than I was but the second girl was like 50 lbs heavier. She couldn't keep me down though...somehow I managed to slip out from under her every time she flipped me over. Its funny to watch...my parents still have the video for proof..or blackmail...one of the two.
2. 2 months after I went to college, I wanted to cut my hair REALLY short, so I went to one of those cheep hair cut places (that's all I could afford). I gave the lady a picture and came out looking like vanilla ice! It was horrible. My hair was actually touching the top of the truck that my friend had driven me there in. I cried the whole way home...put a shirt over my head to get into the dorm, showered immediately and for 3 hours tried to figure out how in the world I was going to style this hideous doo! I wouldn't even go to dinner that night I was so mortified!
3. Ive been tempted to get my nose pierced...I think its really cute...but someone I know said that age 30 was the cut off for noise piercings...so I'm not going too. =)
4. If I couldn't have had kids I would have gone into interior design.
5. I dream about being on American Idol...but I think I'm too old for that too, so when I start to dream it, I try and change my dream to it being Kenna instead of myself. (she really wants to be on American Idol too!)
6. Whenever Jay rides off on his motorcycle I ALWAYS sing in my head (sometimes out loud)..."I wanna coo-ooo-ooo-ool rider, a coo-ooo-ooo-ool rider, if he's cool enough he can burn me through and through whooah. And if he taa-aa-aakes forever, than I'll waaa-aa-aait forever, no ordinary boy, no ordinary boy is gonna do, I want a rider that COOL." You'd have to have seen Grease 2 to understand.
7. Sometimes I break out my old Paula Abdul CD and Kenna & I dance around the living room... (Steph B...I know your singing "He's a cold hearted snake")
8. I have an addiction...Its a picture taking addiction. We just got back from Hawaii and I took 195 pictures in one week. HHHHEEEEEELLLLLPPPPPPP! And that's with my camera being out of service for a few days!

Preslee Christine York

This is Preslee before her surgery with her Grandpa.

Jami, Matt & big sister Adi!

This is an awesome story of how God takes care of his children. Read it and you will be encouraged.
Jami (Preslee's mommy and one of my bestest friends in the world) went in for a "fun" ultra sound in her 32nd week of pregnancy. They found that the small intestine was bigger than it should be (which could be linked to many things...down syndrome, spinal bifida, etc). They chose to wait a few weeks to see if it would correct itself. Monday the 20th she went back in to have another ultra sound and the intestines were even larger. So they did an amnio to see if Preslee's lungs were developed which they weren't and gave Jami steroids so that they would develop quickly which they did. Jami was induced Tuesday night, was able to sleep through the night, was put on pitocin in the morning, they broke her water but Preslee wasn't doing well after the Jami would have a contraction. So they did a C-section and Preslee was born around 12:00. She was 6 lbs 6oz and she is beautiful! She was quickly checked out on the outside and any chromosomal issues were all ruled out...she was perfect. X-rays and other tests showed that her lower intestine was still large so she was off to the surgical table for over 2 hours. They discovered that her big intestine and her small intestine were not connected. So they fixed it! And she should be A-OK! We went to see her and Jami today and they are both doing really well. Preslee will probably be in the NICU for 2-3 weeks depending on how well her body recovers. Please pray for the York's. They are doing incredibly well and are so thankful to the Lord for his goodness in their lives, for Preslee's life. Pray that Jami would heal quickly from the C-section and that she would have the energy to get through the next few weeks.
Congratulations Matt, Jami & Adison and welcome little Preslee...we love you guys!

The stories of Kauai

Not the best picture of us but the scenery is nice.

Twice mom and dad watched the kids for us so we could got out. This night we got to go out with Chad & Bridge so Mamo & Papa had all 6 kids to them selves. We had a great time and really appreciated the break that they gave us. Thanks Mom & Dad...we love you guys.

Mamo & Papa

This is Huddy after the day at the beach in Hanale...

This is Huddy & Ty 1 minute later.

Ok you are probably wondering "who is this little girl in the picture...that doesn't look like a Hughes or a Phillips?" No she's not one of ours but we did take her under our wing so to speak for the afternoon. When we got to Hanale beach this little girl was running around the beach naked with no parents in sight. She decided she liked the toys our kids had to play with but before she really moved in on us she peed about 3 feet behind were Ty & Levi are sitting. Jay about lost his marbles over that one! The scary thing was that she would go out in the ocean by herself and go all the way up to her head...it worried us so we kept an eye on her while we were there. Then we decided we needed to find her parents so we started asking around and found out that the lady selling jewelry & smoking dope (OK we didn't actually see it but...hey some things you just know.), sitting at the main entry was her mom. One older man on the beach went up and talked to her and all she said to him was "its a nice day, she'll be fine." UNBELIEVABLE!!!! There were signs all over the place warning about the under tow. So we left hoping the poor thing didn't drown...she didn't we saw her walking down the road with her mom and her mom's jewelry tote...that's something you don't see everyday.

This is Ty not to happy with Levi dumping sand down his back. Levi, however, is enjoying himself and the free sand to eat to its fullest. Ask his mommy what his poop looked like the next day...hee hee hee.

Ty was OK with the water...but not in love with it. But doesn't he look like he's enjoying it?

On the way to the Beach in Hanale we stopped at the famous "Bubba's Burgers" to eat lunch. You know...the place where their logo is " we relish your buns"...I thought it was funny...at the time anyway.

I so enjoyed watching my Jax this time in Hawaii. He really did enjoy himself. He is just growing up so much and he is more independent and so helpful. I love you bud.

My little Hula girl also had a fabulous time and made the most of the trip. I love you Moo!

Ty & Hudson. Hudson loved Hawaii and was always saying "I'm gonna be happy today mom!" which was fantastic for us! Ty on the other hand was a little small to really enjoy all the activities but he did ok once we got to Hawaii. He started the trip off on the wrong foot though. The night before we left for Hawaii he puked and had the you know whats. He had a fever a few days of the trip and he pooped about 5 minuted after every take off (5 out of 6 plane rides)...he also cried about 7 of the 11 hours we were on the plane going and coming. 18 months is a hard age to try and travel. He just didn't understand that he had to stay in our laps and he didn't like that we were making him...so he fought us most of the time. We tried to make him happy with any kid of treat there was available but that only works for so long. Out of the 14 hours that we were in the air he only slept for 1 of those hours. Not good.

The hotel that we stayed at had activities for each day and this day the kids activity was "bubble blowing". It was perfect for the little kids. They just brought out tubs of liquid soap and fly swatters, of all thing. They worked fabulously! It was really windy and it blew a hundred bubble out of those fly swatters each time they re dipped!

Mamo & Papa with the grand kids.

We decided since we had kitchens to utilise them. So we went to Costco to buy food for the week and this is what we came back with. It looks like a lot of food but we actually ran out 2 days before we left.

The kids loved watching the big fish in the ponds. I love Emme's face in this picture. It looks like she got caught doing something she shouldn't have!

Emme & Huddy...best buds.

Here we are hanging out as a family in our living room.

The stories of Kauai continued....

This moment made me proud. Before we left for Hawaii Hudson wouldn't even put his face in our pool, but for some reason he got brave and decided to give it a whirl...and he didn't die! He even went out in the ocean and put his face under. Way to go Huddy Boy!

One of the sunsets that we saw.

Jay & Jaxon watching the surfers that were practically surfing into the rock!

This was the first morning we were there. We went and had a family breakfast together at the resort (mainly because we hadn't made it to Costco to get food yet.)

Happy to be in Hawaii with my Honey!

Sand castles were a big deal to Kenna. She would have built one everyday had a we let her.

She loved diggin down in the sand!

This is Jaxon on his way to snorkel with the 2 white Phillips men.

Jaxon and Kenna were both old enough to get out in the ocean and snorkle...amazing...at least to me. The only way I snorkeled was with Bridgette and Mom, on a boogie board with my face in the water. When a school of fish came right up near us...I freaked! Feet as high up in the air as they would go...OK so that was a little funny. But then it wasn't funny when the wind and waves started taking us out of the cove. B & I didn't have fins so mom had to do all the major kicking. And of course Bridgette is teasing my by saying things like "HEADLINES...3 snorkelers lost at sea." It took everything I had not to hyperventilate! When Bridge said she saw a snake, I kicked and paddled like my life depended on it. Can you tell? I don't really love the ocean...I love the look of the ocean but what's out there...terrifies me...and yes I know...God is in control (for those of you who are judging me right now) but I have a healthy fear of his greatness and he did create the ocean!

While Jaxon was out snorkeling with the guys, Kenna was at the pool making friends! I love this about my sweet girl. She loves people and people love her!

This is Kenna right after the Hula class she took. She loved it! She sang the song all week..."pearly shells, pearly shells, by the ocean...." and on and on.

This is Kenna trying to teach mommy how to hula...I was a great student!

Now this is a funny story...who is this? This is my friend Jennie from HIGH SCHOOL who I haven't seen in 3 years!! I was walking back to our room one afternoon and we almost ran right into each other! I couldn't believe it. She was there with her kids and cousin so we hung out by the pool that day and then later that night Jennie and I went out to catch up. It was her last day there. How great of God to let me run into my friend in Hawaii!

Boogie Boarding was another one of the fun activities that Jaxon and Kenna loved this trip. They both did a great job! Kenna would board until she had had one to many head dives into the sand...then she would drag her self onto the beach and build a sand castle!

Here she is...check out how she is holding her breath! Too funny!

This was the playground that was right outside our sliding door. It was perfect with the kids the ages that they were. Huddy especially loved it!

Hudson going up the slide...he does things his own way.

This is Spouting Horn...its not that neat...but we thought the kids would like it.

Here's my honey BBQ-ing steaks for us one night.
