Streaker with Boots

SO! I told Hudson to go work on getting dressed for the day and came down the hall to find Tyger trying to get himself dressed also...only he forgot a few things!
I LOVE BEING A MOM! What other job in the world allows you to laugh hysterically at a naked 2 year old running down the hall with rain boots on? These are the perks!

"Take your kids to work" Day.

Today was take your kids to work day so the oldest 3 got to go to work with daddy. I think its great, yet all's they do is eat donuts, play games & color! Is that what daddy does all day? NO! That's the hard nose in me thinking these kids need to know what really goes on in the real world...maybe another day. =) T-Y cried for about 10 minutes after everyone left (what am I chopped liver?) but then we ended up having a fun morning together. Its not very often I get that little guy all alone.

Hi-ho, Hi-ho, its off to work we go!
Eating donuts in the conference room.
This was Hudson's first time "working" with daddy. Jax & Kenna have been many times in the past so this was a special day for Hud. He enjoyed it but then said he didn't because he was irritated that he didn't get to stay longer....sigh.

Let's Bowl!

For my best friends birthday we went to dinner and then bowling with a few other couples and it was SO much fun! Nothing like sliding your fingers into a dirty ball that who knows how many people have used! Just kidding...we had a blast despite all the germs (and I'm not even a germ freak, but thanks to Jay & April they get me thinking about stuff and....welll....YUCK!)

Does anyone remember Grease 2 where they bowl? I love that part of the movie! The whole night I'm singing to myself "We're gonna bowl bowl bowl tonight, we're gonna rock, were gonna roll, we're"....anyway you get the picture!
NO, I did not make Jay buy this shirt! He did it on his own. But I wont lie, I love that he loves to wear it...in public! Let me hear you say AHHHHHHHH.

The pink ladies...just kidding! Thanks Ape for letting us have so much fun for your big day..even if it was a little late! With you there is always guaranteed fun! Love you sista!

Its a Hair THING!

In the last month these are 3 pictures that have been taken of the many hair do's that little miss has come up with! What a fun little girl she is! You are a rock star K!

This one was done by one of our babysitter who is from Mexico. She did an amazing job! I'm just bummed I didn't get a picture of what it looked like when we took it out! She was so proud to wear this do for the weekend!
34 braids all together!
Tenna & Taty (as Ty calls them)
This is what the girls do for fun these days. They try to make the craziest hair style and then I get to vote which one is the weirdest! They are all weird if you ask me! =)

The Olympics 3rd grade style

In the 3rd grade, at Foundations, the history focus for the year is on Greece so to finish off the year with a fun activity they get to have their very own Olympics. It was so fun to watch all of these kids take the Olympics so seriously! Jaxon was golfing with his dad the day before the Olympics so he didn't get to choose his events like everyone else. He ended up with the shot put and the long jump... the two things he DIDN'T want to do. But he had a great attitude and did his best. All of the kids ran in the marathon which Jaxon took 5th in out of 55 kids...Pretty good I thought.

Jaxon was on the Corinthians team!
Shot put
Marathon...Only three kids got trampled...no seriously.
This is Jaxon's good friend Hodges. Yes, he is a year older but these two LOVE sports. It seems as though Hodges is going to have the advantage!

Happy Birthday a few days late...

This is the 11th birthday that I have celebrated with Jay and each year I am amazed at who he is despite the trials that he has gone through. This last year was no exception. He had more burdens on his shoulders than most at 35 years old and yet he handled it all with grace and dependence on the Lord. What an amazing privilege it is to be married to this man who loves the Lord with all his heart, who has made me his top priority, who cherishes each of his kids and after all of that, he has time for others. To care about others, to serve others, to be an example to those around him. He is always thinking of others before himself and he strives to live a life that shows God's grace. He isn't perfect (and he wouldn't want me to tell you he is) but he is perfect for me. In all my weaknesses (and there are a lot) Jay is the opposite and he never makes me feel like I am less than him. He is always encouraging me to seek the Lord in the area's that I struggle and I love him for this. He has taken the time to understand me (he should get the man of the year award for this one) and because he has done so he knows exactly how to lead me, care for me and help me grow. I love this man.
Happy Birthday Jay...you are the man that far exceeds my dreams!

All is well!

This weeks soccer game went great, for those of you who were wondering! Huddy had a blast and he even scored 2 goals!!!! It was so cute! Unlike his older brother he had NO problem celebrating when he scored! He was jumping up and down and giving us all the thumbs up! Way to go Huddy!

Little Man

Its so hard to be the littlest one and feel like you should be able to do what everyone else can!

I wouldn't know, but I'm guessing this is how Ty Ty feels. He was so disappointed when he didn't get to wear a uniform and play soccer with Huddy. He cried a little but for the most part he sat on the side lines with a sad look on his face and would occasionally come over and say "i do it mommy, I pay toccer". Next year buddy, you'll have your chance...and stop trying to grow up so fast!

Soccer + Huddy = cuteness

Hudson had his first soccer game this last Saturday and it was...cute. Huddy marches to his own beat so we were curious as to how this would go, but it was great! He LOVED playing soccer...for a while, but then he was ready to be done...here's how the conversation went:

He comes out for a "break" after playing in one 5 minute quarter:

"Huddy, your doing so great!" says mommy
"I'm sad" said Huddy
"why are you sad?" mommy asks
"because I don't want to play soccer anymore" he says
"today?" Mommy asks
"No, never, ever" Huddy informs
"really? why's that?" mommy asks
"I'm so tired of this" (he went to a birthday party that morning and ate WAY to much candy which ruined the chance for a nap...so I bet he was tired!)

"why don't you rest this quarter and then I bet you'll be ready to go again" mommy tries to encourage

"no, I'm all done" He is saying this as the other Hudson on the team is screaming because he doesn't want to play...

I just sit back and wait to see what's going to happen.

The last quarter arrives and daddy comes over to see if he's ready...

"OK- I guess I'll play" he says

Phew! sometimes not pushing this kid is exactly what it takes to get him to do something. We'll be sure he gets a nap next game! =)

#5- just like Jaxon and Kenna were their first year of soccer!

4th quarter and daddy is giving Hudson the thumbs up for making it back into the game!
This is Hudson meeting the other Hudson during the middle of the game. "I'm Hudson", "No, I'm Hudson" (Pause) I guess we're both Hudson! They then proceeded to give each other a high 5!
This was the "break time" that was almost the end of his soccer career.

nine

Happy Birthday Jaxon!

I cant believe my first born son is nine years old today! But what a GREAT nine years it has been! When you get the opportunity to watch someone grow it is truly a testimony to how great our God is. This year we are praising God for Jaxon in a different way. You see...he gave his life to the Lord this year and from where we are sitting it is a genuine as it comes.

Jaxon,

You make your mom and dad so proud. You are a responsible, kind, diligent, fun-loving, hard working kind of guy and it is a joy to watch you grow. Now our focus as parents will no longer be to help you see that you need a savior because you have seen that for yourself, but to help disciple you as you grow into a man of God. He is already growing you and what a relief as a parent to see that despite our weaknesses as parents, God will make you who He wants you to be. I don't care what you do in life, if you are doing it for the Lord, I will be proud. Thank you for being a help to this momma and for being such a great influence and example for your sister and brothers. May you grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ this year and for the rest of your life. (and thank you Jesus for saving my son...something only you can do.)

Love,

Mommy

Memorial Service for Charley

Saturday March 29th was the day of the funeral. We gathered at Kholerlawn cemetery at 10:30 am for the graveside service. Kelli read a poem and then my dad talked to the family. It was a beautiful service. From there we came back to our home where my dear friends put on a lunch for the family. Then we headed to the church for the memorial service. The services was perfect and God honoring. Charley would have loved it. We think there were about 150-175 people there. So many people drove from LaGrande and other cities to come and support the family. After the service we held the reception at our house where again my friends took care of all the food and preparation. It was wonderful. Good friends hanging out at the house is what Charley would have wanted. When the day was over we felt that Charley had been honored for the man that he was. A man full of life, a man who always had a kind word for everyone, a man who deeply loved his family. We will miss you Grandpa Charley...we already do. Survived by 4 daughters, a son, a daughter-in-law, 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter.
We placed at the front of the church things that reminded us all of Charley. His Ireland t-shirt that he wore so often, a baseball bat that was special to him, a belt with his name on it, and a Charley Sports hat.
FCBC was filled with people. This picture was taken 20 minutes before the service actually started. They brought in more chairs and people still had to sit in the overflow room.
Jaxon was one of 6 people that talked about Charley. He did so great...what a special tribute to his grandpa who he loved so much. Until we meet again in Heaven!

Charley Hughes (Obituary)

Charles (Charley) Edmund Hughes, 63, of Boise, ID, died March 23 at Sunbridge Retirement home in Meridian, ID. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Faith Community Bible Church in Boise.

Charley was born on December 14, 1944, in Nampa, ID to Charles and Gladys (Farr) Hughes. He moved to La Grande to attend school and play football at Eastern Oregon State College in 1963. Upon graduation Charley taught school in Meridian, ID before moving back to La Grande to open up Charley’s Sports which he ran for 10 years. During that time he served as a coach in numerous youth sports throughout the community. After closing the store in 1988 Charley went back to teaching. Ultimately he taught in the Imbler school system for 16 years before retiring and moving to Boise, ID.

Charley will be fondly remembered by many who were touched by his warm heart and contagious smile. He always had a kind word and a moment of his time for anyone that needed it.

Charley is survived by his brother Jim Hughes, his sisters Virginia Scheele and Betty Wells along with his children Jay Hughes and his wife Heather, his daughters Kelli Hughes, Kasey Hughes, Jenica and Rianna McKay and six grandchildren.

An Easter unlike any other

Well, this Easter wasn't exactly what he had thought it would be. We got a phone call at 5:30 am from the Nursing home that Jay's dad was staying at...Charley had passed away. We just sat there for an hour, in shock, and then decided to stay in Yakima and let the kids enjoy their Easter with family. Its a strange feeling to loose someone you love on the day that you are rejoicing that Christ had risen from the dead. You feel sorrow and yet because Charley believed in Christ we will see him again because of Jesus' death and Resurrection. It took some time to process this.
3 major things have happened in the last 4 years and for some reason the Lord has allowed my family to be with us each time. It really was a blessing to have family close during such an emotional time. I took the kids to church that morning and then we ate lunch with the whole family at Josh & Heather's. Here are some pictures from that day. The Hughes kids
Mamo & Papa with all the cousins (except Kara...she was sleeping)
Here's Jaxon, Kenna & Aunt B fighting over the hidden egg that was worth 20 bucks!
All Philips gatherings seem to end in a wrestling match. Grand kids vs. Papa!

The Eve of Easter

We were in Yakima for Easter weekend and the night before we were invited to the Spurgin house to color Easter eggs and decorate Easter cookies! I only took Kenna since the little boys were exhausted and Jaxon was more interested in watching the NCAA tourney games. So, it ended up being a fun time for just us girls. Kenna LOVES anything to do with food and decorating cookies is her specialty. She was in heaven! Thanks Meg for all your hard work, we so enjoyed ourselves! Notice Emme licking the egg...silly girl!
Jaser's and Grandma Meg so proud of his egg!
All of Kenna's BEAUTIFUL eggs!
Ella and her furry mini cup cake!
K had a smile on her face the whole night! Here she is decorating her cookies.
